SuiteTalk Record Updates: Referencing InternalId or ExternalId
While CSV imports allow various reference keys, SuiteTalk record updates are limited to internalId or externalId for identification.
Short answer
SuiteTalk record updates require referencing either the internalId or externalId of the record. Unlike CSV imports, which offer more flexible key options, SuiteTalk does not support updating records by other unique identifiers such as a Sales Order number.
Scenario
Users attempting to update NetSuite records via SuiteTalk may encounter issues when trying to reference a record using keys other than its internalId or externalId. For instance, a common scenario involves attempting to update a Sales Order by its order number, which is a valid reference in other NetSuite functionalities like CSV imports.
Solution
When updating records using SuiteTalk, it is essential to reference the record by its unique internalId or externalId. SuiteTalk does not support updating records by other identifiers, such as a Sales Order number, even though these identifiers may be usable in other NetSuite tools like CSV imports. Therefore, ensure that the SuiteTalk request includes either the internalId or externalId of the record to be updated.
